A Case Study on Art Therapy for the Reduction of Anxiety and Depression in Middle-Aged Women
Kim Jung-Soon
Abstract
This study aims to find out how art therapy affects the anxiety and depression reduction of study subjects by applying art therapy to low-educated middle-aged women with anxiety and depression. The subjects of the study were women in their 60s, insurance planners at the A insurance design office, and a total of 10 art treatments were conducted once a week for 50 minutes.
The ASR, BAI, and BDI scale tests and the STAI scale tests were conducted pre-post and compared and analyzed to determine the emotional characteristics of anxiety in order to measure the physical aspects of the study subjects' anxiety and depression symptoms. In addition, the HTP picture test was conducted in advance and post-mortem as a qualitative test to compare and analyze changes in the subjects related to anxiety during the session. First, the results of this study showed significant results on the anxiety depression scale of middle-aged women with low education in behavioral evaluation scale tests, anxiety, depression scale tests, status-characteristic anxiety scale tests, and home-tree-person picture tests. Second, it had a positive effect on the reduction of physical aspects due to anxiety and depression symptoms in art therapy.
Based on the results of these studies, the application of art therapy suggests the possibility of a medium that can reduce anxiety and depression in middle-aged women, and it can be said that self-expression has been improved by improving self-esteem. Finally, the discussion and limitations of the study were described.
